Windows XP Camera Reads License Plates

Appian Technology is now shipping its Stinger Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera, which runs on Windows XP Embedded on a 1.4 GHz Pentium processor. It's targeted, of course, on police and security agencies in the UK. It's weatherproof, and reads plates no matter how fast the cars are going. Once it reads a plate, it compares the number to an official "hot list" stored on the device's 20 GB hard drive. When it finds a match, it CALLS THE COPS over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or by making a "cell phone" call via GSM/GPRS.
