My guess is that it's an apple orchard in the Okanogan area of North-Central Washington. We drove through there in late summer of this year, and there are many places that look exactly like that.

Its a picture titled "After Microsoft" by Goldin and Senneby and is the same location photographed for the original and most distributed image ever called Bliss - included in Windows XP as the default desktop walpaper.

It's probably what everybody says - the "bliss" hillside. But it also looks a lot like the hillside used in the mid-90's Apple print ad, "Can You See It?", which was an ironic name because I don't think anyone saw it. I was working in an all-Mac architecture firm at the time and Apple's ad firm advance team spent a day in our office taking pictures of our architectural models and renderings and such. We were excited! When the tube with the ad in it arrived we all gathered around to see which of our projects was going to be basking in the Apple advertisement spotlight. The image was of a grassy knoll just like this one, with the headline "Can you see it?" at the bottom. The copy went on to explain that my firm could, indeed, see it. Because we use Macs. Right.
