New Device Detects Non-Organic Food Toxins

Scientists at Spain's Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona have invented a cheap gadget that detects TOXICS IN FOOD, including herbicides in plant foods, and antibiotics in animals foods -- the kind of ingredients organic foods enthusiasts avoid. The invention is so cheap, fast and portable that inspectors -- even consumers -- could routinely test any foods on the fly.

Now if only it would detect the e. coli and botchulism organic food is more prone to because they don't use preservatives and use animal feces as fertilizer :)

All the cases of ecoli that have occurred, without exception, have been as result of coventional and pesticide laden produce--not organic produce. In organic farming, animal feces might be used as a fertilizer but is controlled by very stringent regulations, which conventional farming is not subjected to. If you knew what you're talking about then you would know that animal feces is also used in growing conventional produce in addition to sewage sludge, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and herbicides. You would also know that organic produce is also free of GMO's and up to 50% higher in nutrients than conventional produce. And by the way, factory farm animals are fed animal feces from animals that are not only not organic but also full of diseases, antibiotics and hormones. Bon apetit!

Actually that was a gentle ribbing about the organic spinach e.coli from last year as well as the organic carrot juice botchulism that followed shortly. You are, of course, right that manure is commonly used in traditional farming, but that's about the only thing you've got right.

There is no federal organic food inspector, however all food is tested by the USDA (organic, traditional, and GM). Clearly this testing is random sampling and fallible but it's better than nothing. Some states like CA have defined and will certify organic food, but not for safety - just to make sure that only appropriate chemicals and methods are used.

Raw sewage is not used for anything in first world nations. It is generally not used in other parts of the world, but contamination is a problem.

A spritz of Bug-B-Gone and Miracle Grow does not magically suck out nutrients. Perhaps you're thinking of boiling veggies instead of eating them raw or steaming them?

If you'd like to cite some credible sources be my guest. The long and the short of things is that WHEN PROPERLY HANDLED both organic and traditional food sources are pretty much safe and on equal footing. It's when people get blinded to terms like "organic" and "free range" and suddenly think they don't need to wash their lettuce that things go awry.

Google "organic food myths" to balance your views on the food, see if you can cite credible sources to debunk the debunking. As long as you enjoy what you eat, bon apetit indeed :)
