New Robot Uses Experience to 'Guess'

Purdue University researchers have developed a robot that can make EDUCATED GUESSES based on what it has seen before. The robot navigates based on an internal map. But when it comes upon an unmapped area, it compares what it sees with what it has seen before to guess what lies ahead -- just like humans do. The ability to guess lets robots navigate faster and more accurately than existing methods.
