New War Rescue Robot Rises From Slab
The Vecna Technologies Cambridge Research Lab (near Boston) is building a robot called the Battlefield Extraction-Assist Robot (BEAR), designed to rescue puny humans in war and disasters alike. The new version, seen here for the first time, is FOUR TIMES STRONGER than the old model and far more dexterous. The robot can lift debris off victims, then carry them to safety. The project is funded in part by the U.S. Army. The robot can "crawl" or stand up in a kind of balancing Segway mode. I want one.
