Why the iPhone is Apple's MS-DOS

In the 1980s, Microsoft leverage MS-DOS to position itself to dominate technology in the 1990s. Apple is now doing the same thing with the iPhone.

I think it's possible that within five years, Apple will rise to become the number one "PC" maker, dominate the mobile phone industry, utterly control the music industry, hold sway over the TV and movie industries, and be in a position to force Web standards and practices on everybody. They will rise to become the Microsoft of the coming decade.

Here's how they'll do it.

Umm..dah!! Yes, of course... but you are missing the bigger part of the story. Windows is a dinosaur on the brink of extinction. It does not work..constantly crashes...is incredibly slow...they don't even have tech support for civilians!!! The whole world spends trillions a year waiting for PCs to restart in the morning and recovering from problems on a weekly basis. My computer is SLOWER than it was 15 years ago for real work!!! When are you are going to start screaming about this - The story is: Microsoft has left the door WIDE OPEN!!!!

If Apple can deliver, and I think they have with the Mac X system (I dislike Windows registry and all the problems that go with it)a quality product, then this is not a bad thing. Everybody can still write programs for Mac. However, I would like to see Apple allow other manufactures to offer Mac systems, but I understand why they don't.

*** Why the sudden switch from anti-Apple to pro-Apple? ***

This column looks at quantifiable trends, and predicts a conclusion that I say nobody will want.

Can you explain how this is "pro-Apple"? Can you show me how previous columns were "anti-Apple"?
