Israeli security officers questioned an American tourist for hours. Then, they took her MacBook outside and riddled it with bullets before allowing her to enter the country. (This would make a great "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" parody.)

Hilariously, if they didn't happen to hit the hard drive (and I'm not sure where it is in this model) then it can possibly be put into a new Macbook. Morons with guns.

OK Israel haters and hip-shooters, let's calm down and look at some facts. The laptop was unattended. unattended luggage routinely gets blown up to avoid booby traps. Logging in is unsafe--see above. The idea is to shock the potential hazard with a pressure wave that will set off or disable bomb components. Hitting the hard drive was unnecessary to achieve the safety objectives. She's getting a new laptop courtesy of the Israeli military. As a single woman travelling throughout Israel's neighboring countries and territories with suspicion-arousing photos and journal entries on her person, she had to expect close scrutiny. Many years back an Irish woman was detained by El Al security. Her husband packed her suitcase for her. It was lined with plastic explosives. That's why they ask "did anyone pack your bags?" at airports today. It's not being paranoid, nor callous, it's being cautious. Don't jump to conclusions-you might strain something.
If you read the Israeli version, she had anti-Israeli propaganda in both literature and photos on her camera. She was told to wait by her things and she wandered off. In the modern world we live in, packages left unattended are considered to be bombs. That's why it was shot. Never leave your things and wander away during a border crossing interrogation.
nunuv, why did you begin your tirade with "Israel haters"? There was nothing anti-Israel in anybodies comments. I hate it when jews freak over anything said that is not complementary about Israel. I have been to Israel many times and liked it but when I commented to a jewish colleague that I didn't like some of the food there he squealed an obnoxious "you hate jews" tirade at me. I just walked away. If you had left the first three words off or you comments, I would have respected everything you said below it, which totally ring true. So please leave out the fake anti-semitism, and save if for some other occasion, but not here.
